Why Gen Z Is Bringing Back Their Grandparents' Medicine Cabinet

Remember the little medicine cabinet at your grandparents' home? Camphor, herbs, balms and familiar aromas were often part of everyday life. Today, some of those traditional ideas are finding a new place in modern wellness, especially as younger consumers look for simple, familiar and more personalised ways to care for themselves.

This does not mean Gen Z is abandoning modern healthcare. Instead, wellness is becoming more everyday, portable and experimental. McKinsey's 2025 Future of Wellness research found that Gen Z and millennials are turning wellness into a more personalised daily practice and collectively account for more than 41% of wellness spending among U.S. adults, despite representing 36% of the adult population.

India already has a strong connection with traditional wellness. The Government of India's 2022 to 2023 AYUSH survey found that around 95% of rural and 96% of urban respondents were aware of AYUSH, while 46.3% of rural and 52.9% of urban individuals reported using AYUSH for prevention or treatment during the previous 365 days. The same survey found widespread awareness of medicinal plants and home remedies.

The new shift is about how traditional rituals are experienced. Instead of something kept at home and used only when needed, familiar ingredients and aromas can become portable, convenient everyday rituals. Technology, modern packaging and consumer-focused product design are helping traditional ideas fit into contemporary routines. WHO's Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025 to 2034 also highlights research, safety, evidence, innovation and appropriate technology in the future of traditional medicine.

Where Yadom Life Fits In

Yadom Life takes inspiration from this cultural familiarity and turns it into a modern daily carry. Yadom Life's Herbal Inhaler combines familiar botanical aromas including camphor, ginger, eucalyptus, peppermint leaf, holy basil and lemongrass in a pocket-sized format.

For me, that is what makes the idea interesting. I do not need to wait until I am at home to enjoy a familiar herbal aroma. I can keep Yadom Life in my bag, at my desk, during a commute or while travelling.

It feels familiar, but the experience is designed for my routine today.

Grandparents had the medicine cabinet. We have the pocket reset.

Yadom Life calls it simple: Open. Inhale. Reset.
